Real Women

What is Real Women?

Real Women is a fellowship of women which endeavors to offer a safe place where women can be real and vulnerable with God and one another. Through study of God's Word, we seek to grow in our personal relationship with Jesus Christ, be transformed into His image, and bear fruit for His kingdom. This diverse gathering includes women in every season or shade of life from various churches in the Mobile area. The two hour Bible study includes small group discussion and large group instruction. There is an opportunity for worship and prayer prior to the meeting.

A Search for the Real Jesus
(A Chronological Journey Through the Gospels)

Did you know that in every culture the message of the Gospel is in danger of being compromised? In each generation, inherently humanistic value systems and goals threaten the misunderstanding and distortion of God's intentions. Think about it. You see it in the first century when most of the Jews missed Jesus as Messiah.

This reality, then, begs the questionHas the Western Church also compromised the message of the Gospel? And, if so, what impact has that had on how we view the character, mission, and ministry of Jesus? Likewise, what impact does that have on how we view the mission and ministry of those who proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior?

In order to answer these questions, we are going on a search for the Real Jesus by journeying chronologically through the Gospels.  For most people, Jesus’ time on earth – His mission and ministry – lives in their hearts and minds as a smattering of disconnected events, sermons, parables, miracles, and encounters. While the Gospel writers reveal Jesus as a man who attracted great crowds and whose encounters left people forever transformed, the Jesus presented by the majority of Western churches, by Western Christians, rarely seems to evoke the same response. Could we be missing something, or more seriously, have we compromised the Man and Message of the Gospel?

We will journey through the Gospels pursuing three goals:

Remove – labels, stereotypes, and agendas - personal, cultural, or social - attached to Jesus

Restore – the true mission, ministry, and character of Jesus

Respond – to our encounter with Jesus

What will you need for the journey?

  • An open heart
  • A Bible (Any Bible will do. A Harmony of the Gospels (by Thomas and Gundry ©1978 NAS version), would prove a worthwhile $20 investment.)
  • A Journey Guidebook (This will be available at class for cost of printing materials; scholarships are available upon request.)
